We use the latest design programs to engineer the strongest and most advanced steel Storm Shelter on the market today. With our patent pending “6 point rotary latch/hinge system” it is virtually impossible to be trapped inside from a non-operable door due to debris impact. Our doors open inward to the left or right. In the case of severe debris damage the door is completely removable by just activating both latches simultaneously. Of course it would take 300,000 lbs of force to compromise our door and latch system. All of our doors are handicap accessible.
All of our Storm Shelters use Grade 65 3/16’’ ASTM A572 high strength low alloy steel plate plate. The same structural steel used in bridge construction, high voltage transmission line towers and wind turbine towers.
Our interior frame work features 2’’x 3’’ wall studs on 24’’ centers with 3 horizontal 2’’x 2’’ cross braces per 2 foot panel. Strongest wall panels in the industry. Our bolt together design allows for ease of installation and relocation. 16 - 5/8th anchor bolts installed with 2 part epoxy hold our 4’x 6’ unit to your pre existing concrete slab. Or we can pour a concrete slab and mount it outside. Outside units require a special coating.
The strength of our steel above ground Storm Shelters allow us to offer 2 doors on our 6’x 6’ and larger steel storm shelters, giving you an additional option for egress in the event of debris piling on the primary door.
While researching the industry before starting the process of manufacturing our steel above ground Storm Shelters we found the industry to be largely unregulated. And testing procedures not truly representing the unpredictable forces of a tornado. We are putting our own families in these Storm Shelters so we went the extra mile to design and manufacture a above ground steel Storm Shelter that far exceeds FEMA/ICC, Texas Tech, and NSSA specs.
Granted there is no guarantee in a tornado but in a JBL Design above-ground steel Storm Shelter, your family’s and your protection is greatly increased. But we can guarantee this, there is not a stronger or safer above ground steel Storm Shelter on the market.
